Steve McNichols has been in private civil practice in the Bay Area since 1974. His career began as a private practitioner in Colorado. He later moved to California where he became a criminal prosecutor, handling numerous jury trials ranging  from misdemeanors to death penalty cases. After four years as a criminal prosecutor, he was made head of the Consumer Fraud Division where he prosecuted civil and criminal consumer fraud actions.

Today, about 90 percent of Steve’s practice is devoted to litigation. He represents both plaintiffs and defendants in various types of litigation and counsels clients in business transactions. His practice involves a wide variety of legal work including, negotiating, drafting and litigating business and real estate contracts; litigating and resolving complex commercial, real estate, land use, construction, landslide and subsidence, business tort, intellectual property, partnership and corporate disputes.

Steve also provides legal advice to country clubs.

He has tried more than 75 jury trials and over 95 court trials to verdict and teaches lawyers trial techniques at the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. Steve  is frequently asked by judges, other attorneys and parties to serve as a private, neutral mediator and arbitrator. He also serves as a judge pro tem, court appointed referee, mediator and arbitrator. He has represented parties on appeal in federal and state appellate courts and has published articles on legal issues and developments.
